As a leader in microbial technology, our innovative probiotics reduce pathogens and associated pathogenic processes in the gastrointestinal tract of livestock and poultry, resulting in improved digestive function and commercial performance.

BOVAMINE® was first introduced in 1994, and has become a staple for feedlot cattle – 85% of all feedlot cattle fed probiotics receive a BOVAMINE®-branded product.

More than 650 probiotic strains were screened before ultimately identifying beneficial bacteria that would be effective at reducing pathogens in the digestive tract of ruminants for improved health and performance, and also could be manufactured consistently. The uses of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Propionibacterium freudenreichii strains to reduce pathogenic bacteria, improve animal performance and for pre-harvest use to reduce foodborne pathogen are patented.

Continued research led to additional probiotic products, including BOVAMINE DEFEND® for beef cattle, BOVAMINE® DAIRY, and PoultriMax®. Our products use beneficial bacteria to help producers proactively defend against pathogens to improve the health, performance and profitability of livestock and poultry.

Research studies have demonstrated that the carefully selected beneficial bacteria used in our probiotic products have been found to:

  • Reduce pathogens in the digestive tract.
  • Stabilize the GI tract.
  • Improve the capture of energy from feed.
  • Positively influence the immune system.

In February 2016, Chr. Hansen acquired Nutrition Physiology Company, and added BOVAMINE®, BOVAMINE DEFEND® , BOVAMINE® DAIRY, and PoultriMax® to the Chr. Hansen Animal Health portfolio.
